“Behold.
Be still.
Know: I am, I am, I am.
Refuge.”
(Based on Psalm 46)
Today is a gift,
a treasure to be opened
slowly and carefully
with attention and reverence
with deep appreciation.
There’s much to see, hear, and experience:
the green grass,
the red and purple wildflowers,
the bird ruffling its feathers in the birdbath,
the wide eyes of children swinging,
the shouts of joy sliding down the slide,
the wind rustling leaves,
the sip of fresh lemonade,
the smell of grilled burgers and veggies,
the awe in a firefly’s light,
the vastness of a star-filled sky.
Open my eyes
to see this life
the secrets beneath the surface
the melody of creation
inviting us to join its song.
Give me a moment to breathe
sit
rest
be still.
And most importantly,
to pay attention
to the songs of crickets
the water’s lapping waves
a new baby’s cries
the toll of a bell.
There you are
God
in and through it all
reaching out to me
in the gentle touch
of a sun-drenched day.
