Here is our weekly look at just some of the good stuff going on in The Episcopal Church:

St. James Episcopal Church in Black Mountain NC guides three retreats each year where eight to 10 mothers behind bars get to be reunited with their children for 24 hours.

Ugandan native Juma Semakula began collecting shoes to send to rural churches in Uganda. He’s discovered that his neighbors at St. James’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, VA had an interest in joining his enterprise. Kent Duffey, director of children’s ministries at St. James’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, said she’s amazed at what Semakula is trying to do.

On Beads of Prayer is a ministry of the Diocese of Washington started at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in 2006. There are 17 partner parishes that have made and distributed over 5,000 prayer beads to troops overseas. Among the parishes is St. James Episcopal Church in Indian Head, MD where a group of women gather every other week to string beads.
