A shooting today in Overland Park, KS left three people dead and one critically wounded. The incidents occured in quick succession at the Jewish Community Center, in the parking lot, then at the parking lot of the Village Shalom, a Jewish retirement home.

The suspect, a white male in his 70s, according to police, is in custody, and the shooting spree is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

The Jewish Community Center posted a statement on their Facebook page, thanking the community for their support. At the time of the attack, a local talent contest was auditioning high school students in the community center’s theater space.

An interfaith prayer vigil will be held this evening at 8pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Overland Park, in conjunction with Temple Israel.

The thoughts and prayers of all of us at the Cafe are with those affected by this senseless act of hate.
