Solidarity with those surviving on food stamps

The Port Huron Times Herald reports:

Bishop Todd Ousley wants people to know what it’s like to live on $30.97 worth of food per week.

So Ousley, bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Michigan, is doing what he calls a Fast from Excess — and he’s encouraging everyone, not just Episcopalians, to join in.

Ousley is eating only the groceries he was able to purchase with $30.97 — the average benefit for individuals on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. He started Friday, and his fast continues through Nov. 7.

The Fast from Excess also caught the eye of Saginaw area television stations. Brittany Shannon at NBC 25 also filed a report.
