Religious New Service has several items on sexual abuse charges roiling the Southern Baptist Convention:
SBC Executive Committee rejects request for system-wide abuse inquiry
Another committee member argued against a fellow member’s request, saying there is no one in the SBC who favors sex abuse.
Sex abuse survivors call for system-wide audit of Southern Baptist Convention
[In 2019] a longtime staffer at the Executive Committee, D. August “Augie” Boto, called sexual abuse activists pushing the SBC to do more “a satanic scheme to completely distract us from evangelism.”
Southern Baptist Executive Committee hires Guidepost Solutions to review Moore allegations
The review by Guidepost Solutions comes in response to allegations by Russell Moore, until recently the president of the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, claiming that Floyd and Georgia pastor Mike Stone had tried to delay attempts to deal with abuse and to silence abuse survivors.
…
[In leaked clips from 2019] Floyd said he was not worried about “what survivors can say.”
“I am not worried about that,” [the president of the executive committee] is heard saying in the audio clips, released by a Texas pastor who is a former ERLC staffer. “I’m thinking of the base. I just want to preserve the base.”
Besides reviewing Moore’s allegations, Guidepost will “review and enhance training” provided to the Executive Committee staff and trustees in responding to abuse matters.
It is scandalous to allow the EC to appoint an investigative team, independent of the SBC. Merits protests. This kind of wrong, raw, in your face insensitive treatment seems to be reserved for women & minorities. Only males making decisions, for female victims, is horribly wrong. https://t.co/jyOpgpUvjt
