What have you seen this Advent and Christmas season that has moved you?
Perhaps surprising is the fact that the two most personal accounts involve the post office:
From Marie Harkey:
At the post office: long line, very busy. A gentleman approaches the person behind the counter to buy a money order to pay a parking ticket or some such. He tells her he “may need some help with this.” She quickly discerns that he can’t read. She fills out they money order, checks off the correct boxes on his ticket, puts the money order in the envelope, puts a stamp on it, includes his return address, and hands him a receipt, telling him that this is his proof that he paid the ticket. She does all this without an ounce of condescension. I’m next at the counter, and she looks genuinely surprised when I tell her how touched I was by her care for her previous customer.
From Debra Kellerman:
A woman sees a man leaving the post office, he’s in tears and very upset- when she asks what is wrong, he tells her he doesn’t have enough money to mail all his Christmas cards. She takes him inside, buys the stamps he needs and helps him place them on the envelope.
Lee Crawford cites how people of the church have responded to a crisis that has passed out of many people’s minds:
The incredibly resiliency of the lay leaders and clergy of the Episcopal Church of Haiti… their singing and prayer brings me to tears.
And Suzanne Artley, reminding us of what is best about the season:
The creative ways, large and small, that people have reached out to those that are in need, both two and four legged creatures of Godde.
