New research from the World Health Organization is showing that number of deaths world-wide due to malaria have been significantly underestimated. Instead of the 655,000 or so thought to have died in 2010, nearly 1.22 million died. That’s the bad news. There’s good news too.
The Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa has made and urgent appeal to Muslim faith leaders to stand with them in opposition to “tragic violence that is destroying our communities” particularly in Sudan, Nigeria and Egypt.
We urge you to contact your elected officials in Congress, in state government, or even at the White House (remind President Obama that he already has a stated position) and tell them to apply whatever pressure they can bring in order to permanently push the Anti-Homosexuality Bill out of the Ugandan Parliament.

It struck me as I listened to those two men that a truer nomination for our species than Homo sapiens might be Homo narrans, the storytelling person. What differentiates us from animals is the fact that we can listen to other people’s dreams, fears, joys, sorrows, desires and defeats — and they in turn can listen to ours.
The Bishop of Swaziland (a diocese of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa) has spoken out in a startling way calling for “regime change” and said the King must step down.
“People have to be more tolerant. We have to make them understand that homosexuals are not different from them as human beings. [Gay] people are suffering and we believe the problem is in failing to understand them.”
