The Church of England Synod voted on Wednesday to urge its members to reach out to their non-Christian neighbors in an effort to share the gospel of salvation offered uniquely in Christ Jesus. CofE proposes compromise on women bishops

The Synod of the Church of England voted last July to move forward with the ordination of women to the episcopate using a so-called “Code of Practice” and turned aside parallel oversight schemes. The proposal released this week in advance of February’s synod includes a scheme of “complementary” male bishops and judicial review for unhappy parishes.

Williams: a disestablished church has a “certain integrity”

“When you took a vote at the Welsh Synod, it didn’t have to be nodded through by parliament afterwards. There is a certain integrity to that.” But Williams added he believes any push for disestablishment would be on the basis of pushing religion out of the public sphere. “That’s the point where I think I’d be bloody-minded and say, ‘Well, not on that basis.'”
