Letter from Bishop Taylor: St James the Great to be sold

UPDATED: Response by St James the Great:
In prayerful discernment, we opened our hearts to a variety of possibilities for reconciliation in Christ and healing for St. James and our whole community. But Bishop Bruno has entered into a binding contract to sell the property. The buyer has the legal right to expect the seller to honor the contract. Much as we might wish it were otherwise, we do not believe that it would be in the interests of the diocese or consistent with our fiduciary responsibilities to endorse any steps leading to breaching or threatening to breach an enforceable contract that could lead to further expense and litigation.

Bp Bruno to face disciplinary hearing in March

Meeting in Chicago, a Hearing Panel consisting of three bishops, a priest and a layperson have determined that the bishop of Los Angeles, the Rt Rev Jon Bruno will face a disciplinary hearing in March on charges related to the closure and attempted sale of property once occupied by St James the Great Episcopal Church in Newport Beach.

Former Nixon chief of staff nominated as bishop coadjutor for Dio Los Angeles

On 3 OCT the Standing Committee for Dio Los Angeles announced an additional candidate to the slate for bishop coadjutor. The additional candidate is the Revd Canon John Taylor, full-time vicar of St. John Chrysostom Church and School in Rancho Santa Margarita CA. The Revd Taylor was nominated by petition, a process previously approved and announced by the Bishop Coadjutor Search Committee.

The Diocesan Council of the Diocese of Los Angeles returns draft report on the Corp Sole

A resolution passed at the Diocese of Los Angeles annual convention in 2015 requires that the real properties held by the Bishop as a Corporation Sole be transferred to the Corporation of the Diocese. In response to the resolution, a task force was established to research the properties held by the Corporation Sole. At a recent meeting of the Diocesan Council, which has the authority of the Diocesan Convention between conventions, the Council voted to return the draft report of the task force.
