The Presiding Bishop sent a letter the bishops of the Episcopal Church late last weekend, summing up conversations held during General Convention and with her Council of Advice. In the letter she discusses the strategy that is governing the way the Episcopal Church responds to legal challenges regarding diocesan and parish property.

The smile on Katharine Jefferts Schori’s face was a mile wide. A group of Sudanese women had just finished singing, opening a service honoring the 150th anniversary of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in East Nashville. And now a string ensemble and nearly 300 worshippers had joined in a familiar hymn, as St. Ann’s choir, pastor and other clergy began entering in processional.
There are — or were — three dioceses with bishops who didn’t believe in the ordination of women. Those dioceses are recovering now and excited to have women as priests. There are some parts of the communion that don’t ordain women at all, as priests or as bishops. But we’re all in conversation.

In a Q&A she discussed interfaith work, conflict in the church, and membership.
“Get healthy; learn to love one another,” Jefferts Schori prayed, adding that those present must make attempts to lower the level of conflict in the diocese, and she urged them to adopt a discipline to help restore broken relationships. “Look for the blessing in the person that drives you crazy.”
