The ping pong between principals over the interpretation of the Walking Together resolution passed at the recent Anglican Consultative Committee in Lusaka continues.
“Given that my report, referred to in the resolution, incorporated the Communiqué and was very explicit on consequences; the resolution clearly supports and accepts all the Primates’ Meeting conclusions. No member of the Episcopal Church stood for office in the ACC or Standing Committee. The consequences of the Primates meeting have been fully implemented.” – Archbishop of Canterbury at the conclusion of ACC-16
The Primates Meeting in January 2016 called for sanctions against TEC. Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon said that the primates’ decision has this result: “the three-year absence of a gifted priest, ecumenist, and Bible scholar who serves on our dialogue with the World Communion of Reformed Churches” That is, although the primates’ resolution “applies to the TEC as a whole,” it “practically involves” just one person.

Archbishop Idowu-Fearon acts like the Anglican Covenant is in force. It is not.
Following the kerfuffle in Canterbury, Tobias Haller, BSG, was reminded of a piece he wrote in 2006 in response to issues we were having with
Responses to the Primates’ communiqué by bishops of The Episcopal Church.
“… any vested retirement benefits that have been earned by the cleric up to the date of deposition or removal will be available to the cleric when he or she retires.”
It was not open to him, argued Dr Hiltz, to offer to suffer the same consequences alongside his brother bishop, since this would preempt the decisions of the Anglican Church of Canada’s own General Synod this July.
