Presiding Bishop among the “$10 in 2010” signatories

The Rev. Dr. Sharon E. Watkins, General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), signed the letter in support of the ‘$10 in 2010’ campaign saying: “National wage policies are moral documents that express the values of our country. A minimum wage closer to a living wage better reflects our values.” The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori and 400 other faith leaders from all 50 states also signed the letter.

Prop 8 challenges

Proposition 8 is invalid because the initiative process was improperly used in an attempt to undo the constitution’s core commitment to equality for everyone by eliminating a fundamental right from just one group – lesbian and gay Californians. CT Supreme Court rules ban on gay marriage unconstitutional

New study on abortion reduction

Joseph Wright (Penn State University) and Michael Bailey’s (Georgetown University) examined the dramatic drop in abortions in the 1990s. The results are significant. States that spend more generously on nutritional supplement programs, for example, could see up to 37 percent lower abortion rates. Other factors such as cutting welfare more slowly and higher male employment rates had a 20 to 29 percent reduction rate.
