Israel prides itself on being a democracy – the only one in the Middle East. Yet a true democracy adheres to the rule of law and defends the religious freedom of all persons. This has not been the case for Bishop Dawani, a Palestinian Christian.
Don’t count them as irrelevant: relics of saints, and their reliquaries, reflect our current thinking.
Yesterday religious leaders from across the state and around the country came out in support of the Union members and in opposition to the legislatures’ actions; Rabbi’s and Catholic bishops in that state in particular.
It is really this, the magnetic quality of a life dedicated to love, that is I think the genuine power to create “strong ties” over a large population. We can look at the life of Siddhartha, Gautama Buddha, whose path today has over 300 million followers. Closer to our own time, the great attraction that Mother Teresa’s life has had is unrelated to any single act of self-sacrifice.

We’ve seen a veritable cornucopia of “top 10 lists” over the past weeks (including ours here on the Café). But there’s not been much analysis

After about three days, I could think clearly, and then for the next few days, I was able to just be – and to discern whether the direction shift in my life was the correct one to take. I did all of my serious thinking and prayer after each walk, but then was able to relax and breathe through the week.
