The Anglican Church of Australia gains bishop to Aboriginal peoples

Because of North America being east of the international date line, the deed is likely done. Saturday 11 APR 2015 the Diocese of Adelaide is planning to consecrate the Revd Chris McLeod a bishop for the Anglican Church of Australia, to serve as an assisting bishop with a special responsibility to work along side Aboriginal people in south Australia. Of Aboriginal descent himself, he has worked in Aboriginal ministry for over 20 years. Archbishop of Adelaid and Metropolitan of South Australia, Jeffry Driver, says that consecrating McLeod is an important step by the Anglican Church of Australia in addressing the walk of reconciliation with Australia’s Aboriginal people.

“This appointment is in response to a need as well as a statement of commitment,” the Archbishop says.

“My hope is that this will open up a new time for Aboriginal people in their relationship with the Anglican Church and that together we will enrich the life of our State and our Nation.”
