Members of the Anglican Church of Korea will gather in the Cathedral Church of St Mary the Virgin and St Nicholas in Seoul on 3 OCT to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Anglicanism in Korea. The theme of the celebration is Reconciliation – Human & God: Lord send me. The church is anticipating that the anniversary will found a new time of mission and growth for Korea.

The commemoration also marks a number of other anniversaries for the Korea Church; the 100th anniversary of the ordination of the first Korean priest, the Revd Hee Jun Mark Kim, and 50th anniversary of the consecration of the first Korean bishop, the Rt Revd Chun Hwan Paul Lee. These two events were both major milestones for Korea. Also the 90th year since the founding of both the Society of the Holy Cross and the Mother’s Union of Korea, the 50th year since the creation of the Dioceses of Seoul and Daejeon and the 40th for the Diocese of Busan.

Special guests for the commemoration will include the Archbishop of Canterbury’s representative, the Rt Revd Donald Allister, Bishop of Perterborough, the Most Revd Nathaniel Makoto Uematsu, Primate of the Anglican Communion of Japan, the Most Revd Dr Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church and the Rt Revd Allen K. Shin, bishop suffragan of Dio New York and the first US bishop of Korean heritage.
