The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donates another $250,000 to Episcopal Migration Ministries

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated a total of $5 million to nine different voluntary refugee resettlement agencies in the United States. One of the nine, receiving a total of $250 thousand, is Episcopal Migration Ministries. This is the second year that LDS has made this donation, a combination of cash and in-kind supplies or services. “Episcopal Migration Ministries and our 22 affiliate partners are deeply grateful for the generosity and support of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” EMM said in a statement provided to the Deseret News. “They are working with the Episcopal Migration Ministries team to create a strategic media plan to broaden outreach.” The donations come from the LDS’ Humanitarian Fund, which is, in turn, driven by direct donations from members of the church. In 2016, LDS Charities did 488 refugee relief projects in 54 countries. The donations this year also went to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, and the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, among others. “As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to bear our neighbors’ burdens and provide them with refuge from the storms of life,” said LDS Church Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé. Members of the church were also called to volunteer locally with refugee aid services.
