Bishop Richard Shimpfky, who recently served in the Diocese of Long Island, died this morning at 6:30 am et. His family was with him over the past several days. Over the past several weeks, the Bishop had gratefully received a parade of calls and visits from people all over the country.
May he rest in peace.

Dear ECR Faithful,
It is with sadness that we inform you that The Rt. Rev. Richard L., Shimpfky, D. D., departed this life at 6:00 a.m. this morning, February 28, 2011.
The celebration of his life will be held March 12 at Christ Church, Ridgewood, NJ at 11:00 am where Richard served as rector before he was elected bishop. Bishop Mark Beckwith of the Diocese of Newark will officiate.
El Camino Real will have a memorial service at Trinity Cathedral at a later date to be determined.

O God, who by the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ destroyed death, and brought life and immortality to light: Grant that your servant Richard, being raised with him, may know the strength of his presence, and rejoice in his eternal glory; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
