The Episcopal Peace Fellowship’s Palestine/Israel Network (EPF PIN) is pleased to announce a new educational resource for members of the Church. We’re calling it an Educational Toolkit because we recognize that effective education and information-sharing should offer a variety of tools, suited to different interests and styles of learning.
The Educational Toolkit addresses the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” TEC has spoken repeatedly over the years in resolutions on this topic. The conflict is a continuing source of tension in our world today and is occurring in a land holy to Christians, Muslims and Jews. The land where Jesus lived is today comprised of the State of Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. The region and the conflict are often in the headlines, but events there are little understood by many of us. To help improve our understanding, we have compiled a diverse collection of up-to-date information that we hope will help fill in some gaps and tell the story fairly and accurately:
- What is this “conflict” really about?
- Who are the Palestinians and what do they want?
- Doesn’t Israel have the right to defend itself?
- Why is understanding this faraway conflict important to members of the Episcopal Church?
EPF PIN offers the Educational Toolkit on its website so that anyone may use its resources. The information is organized to make it “user friendly” by offering materials that can help those just beginning to study these issues, as well as those already knowledgeable.
The Educational Toolkit may be used for self-learning, to help in telling others about these issues, and/or to use in formal teaching settings; for example, in parish or community groups.
EPF PIN hopes that this Educational Toolkit will help promote better understanding of an important issue and inform deputies to General Convention 2018 on what is at stake in the resolutions that are proposed for their consideration.
