Uganda’s parliament on Wednesday was forced to drop plans to debate a controversial bill that once proposed the death penalty for some gays and lesbians, but officials indicated lawmakers would debate it on Friday.
…… It had been scheduled to be debated before the full parliament on Wednesday, but a walkout by female legislators over an unrelated bill prevented parliament from discussing it.
Since the regular session of parliament was to have concluded today, by our understanding, Friday would be a special session.
Meanwhile, the major papers in Uganda are focused on the return to Ugandam of opposition leader Kizza Besigye and the month-long riots and demonstrations across the country.

In contradiction to our earlier post, the editors of the Episcopal Cafe have now learned that it seems the Uganda anti-gay bill IS ON the agenda for the Parliament session today. Given the great uncertainty it’s best to assume it is on, and await the outcome.
