VA Supreme Court to hear appeals on Falls Church

The Virginia Supreme Court will hear some or all of the issues in the appeal by Falls Church Anglican:

From the Diocese of Virginia

The Diocese of Virginia learned earlier today from the Web site of the Supreme Court of Virginia that the Court granted The Falls Church Anglican’s petition for appeal last Friday, October 26. This means that the Court will hear argument on the merits of some or all of the issues raised by both sides in the appeal process. Diocesan attorneys have not yet received the writ, or official court document granting the appeal, so we do not yet know which issues the court will address. We will provide more information as soon as we are able.

Dear friend of the Falls Church Episcopal:

In case you haven’t seen it yet, here is a communication from the Diocese of Virginia sharing the news that the Virginia Supreme Court is going to hear some or all of the issues in the appeal that the Falls Church Anglican filed back in mid-October.

We don’t yet know which specific issues of the appeal they are going to hear. We don’t yet know the timing of the appeal – when it’ll be heard. We don’t even yet know if this is good news or bad news (although it stands to reason that the sooner members of the Body of Christ can stop spending time and money on lawsuits and return to direct mission and ministry, the better).

But what we do know is our daily ministries and our weekly worship will continue uninterrupted. What we do know is that our mission — to be a welcoming group of believers whose message is one of trust in the hope-filled promises of Jesus Christ, love for one another, and service to the community — is as relevant and important as ever. What we do know is to put our trust in God, pray for all parties concerned, and pray for a speedy and just resolution of this litigation.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me or Rev. Cathy.

Faithfully yours,

John
