Forgive her; she knows not what she does.
Lindsay Lohan thinks she knows how to rock the Jesus look. She sports a modest crown and sprawled arms in a crucifixion pose on the cover of the latest issue of Purple Fashion Magazine.
Who’s offended? The Catholic League president Bill Donohue, for one.
Not only is the pose inappropriate, the timing is offensive: Lent begins next week.
[What better timing for her? Lent’s all about purple, Mr. Donohue, and she’s on the cover of Purple Fashion. Is this an untapped market for all of us liturgical types? -ed.]
Lohan, an ex-Catholic who is spiritually homeless, recently said, “I’m all about Karma…what goes around comes around.” If she believes that, then it behooves her to apologize to Christians before it’s too late.
Looks like Tiger Woods is not the only celebrity who would benefit by converting to Christianity these days. Forgiveness occupies a central place in Christianity, but the predicate to forgiveness is repentance.
Fair enough. But perhaps ridiculous statements like Ms. Lohan’s deserve equal treatment, and another Catholic – America Magazine‘s James Martin, S.J. – seems happy to oblige by comparing apples to apples. For instance:
Lindsay is a “triple threat” in Hollywood: a singer, a dancer and an actor. Jesus is a member of the Holy Trinity.
Lindsay has recorded for Universal Music. Jesus is the King of the Universe.
Lindsay released a self-tanning product in collaboration with Sephora, and was the face of the Fornarina, an Italian clothing line. Jesus visited the Roman town of Sepphoris in Galilee, and is the face of God.
Looks like Jesus takes the round.
