A new survey ranks 65 countries by the level of religious engagement amongst their people. Britain ranks sixth from the bottom of the table.
The Huffington Post UK reports that under a third of Britons claim a religious affiliation, with 13% staunch atheists, and the majority scoring as “don’t knows.”
The five most religious countries were all in Africa or Asia.
The HuffPost article quotes Jean-Marc Leger, president of the Win/Gallup International Association which carried out the survey, on the future of religious affiliation:
“Religion continues to dominate our everyday lives and we see that the total number of people who consider themselves to be religious is actually relatively high.
“Furthermore, with the trend of an increasingly religious youth globally, we can assume that the number of people who consider themselves religious will only continue to increase.”
Globally, around two-thirds of people consider themselves religious, according to the research.
