The Episcopal Church in Colorado has published its slate of nominees for the eleventh bishop of the diocese.
The Rev. Kimberly (Kym) Lucas is the Rector, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Washington, DC. In her introductory statement, she writes
In my 21 years of ordained ministry, I’ve learned some of my greatest faith lessons from children and people on the margins of society. This learning fuels my passion for preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and making room for everyone around God’s table. I’m dedicated to building communities of faith that reflect the diverse beauty of God’s Kingdom.
While I take the Gospel very seriously, I don’t take myself too seriously. The best parts of my ministry are the times when I’m laughing. As I follow the Spirit’s lead in living my call, my prayer is that I will always be called to lead and serve people who are willing to dream and laugh with me.
The Rev. Canon Michael Pipkin serves as Missioner for Missional Management in the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. He writes
Not to be confused by his own title (Missioner for Missional Management?), Michael has worked to connect the management practices of the institutional church with the missional practices of the Jesus Movement by assisting faith communities in the discernment of their God-given resources, and then by collaborating with congregational and diocesan leaders in the development of sustainable practices to carry forward God’s mission for future generations.
As a Navy Chaplain, Michael was on the grounds of the Pentagon within hours of the attack on on 9/11, ministering to victims and first responders. From there he served Marines in Iraq from whom he learned a great deal about leadership, courage, vulnerability, and the resiliency of the human spirit.
The Rev. Canon Ruth Woodliff-Stanley is the Canon to the Ordinary in Colorado, Denver, CO. She writes
What we have in this diocese is truly remarkable. Your work, in every region and corner of this state lifts up our resurrected Lord. You have blazed new trails that bring God’s mercy and love to neighbors close by and far away. You inspire me. I am so grateful to be part of this diocese. …
I love this diocese with a love forged over years working in every region with every kind of faith community and serving alongside my peers as a parish priest. I am intimately acquainted with the rich, beautiful range of ministries that comprise The Episcopal Church in Colorado and with the demands of ministry here.
And now, as you know, I serve as Canon to the Ordinary, with an engaging range of responsibilities, giving me a close up view of the ministry of the bishop.
The nominees’ full statements and resumes are available here. A petition process has opened a ten-day window for names to be added to the search committee’s consideration. An election is expected at the diocesan convention in October.
