Following the news of the birth of a son to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, at whose wedding he preached last year, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry tweeted:
The Jewish tradition reminds us that the birth of every child is a reminder that God is not finished with us yet. There is hope. Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and prayers of blessing for them and their baby.#royalbaby

Others on Twitter took issue with New York Times coverage of Bishop Curry’s relationship to the royal couple. According to commenters, the paper originally referred to Curry as “a freestyling African-American preacher.”
Dear @nytimes …He isn’t simply a “freestyling African-American preacher.” He is the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. Your failure to use his title and role is disrespectful. https://t.co/QPoI4V7Q4J

“free-styling African-American preacher”?! He is the Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church. That sermon was written, and researched (and has been published, thank you very much.) What is wrong with you? (as if we didn’t know) https://t.co/ub75VR4tHN

The copy has apparently been updated to read “bishop” rather than “preacher.”
