A gesture of reconciliation and a sigh of relief

Last May, Wesley James Queen left death threats on the voice mails of the Rev. Simón Bautista, the Episcopal Diocese of Washington’s Canon for Latino Ministries and other leaders of CASA de Maryland, an immigrants rights group. Yesterday, at a crowded news conference, Queen embraced the people whom he had threatened and apologized.

WJZ in Baltimore has video coverage (although they misspell Simon’s name and don’t identify him as an Episcopal priest.) The Frederick News-Post is also on the story. WJLA-TV in Washington has this somewhat balky video in which Canon Bautista is pictured, but does not speak. One would feel a little better about this feel-good story if Queen didn’t drag the Maryland Republican party into it with no real evidence that they had influenced him.

Our previous coverage of this incident is here and here.
