More than 500 leaders of various faiths are petitioning for Christopher Young to be given a new trial. The leaders are from Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and Islamic faiths. They are requesting a new trial on one specific reason, that a potential juror was eliminated from the jury for Young’s trial because of her association with a Baptist Church which had a prison ministry.
The court ruled that the Washington Law Against Discrimination as applied in this case did not violate any First Amendment rights, guaranteed by the US Constitution. That the law is a neutral, generally applicable law that serves the WA State government’s compelling interest in eradicating discrimination in public accommodations.
I’ve heard it, and you probably have as well, Islam is a violent religion. Folks who claim to be Muslim, who commit violence in the name of Islam are really Muslims. And when I have responded with the idea that it is the same regarding Christians and Christianity, I encounter opposition, folks who claim to be Christian, who commit violence in the name of Christianity, aren’t really Christians.

When Barbara Blaine was 13 years of age, she reports that she was sexually molested by a Roman Catholic priest. She identified the priest who she says molested her. And although there have been 30 years of accusations against him, he has never had to face the criminal justice system for those accusations because he is protected by the statute of limitations in the law. Barbara went on to found the group SNAP, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests and she has been involved with SNAP’s leadership for the past 29 years.

The Presiding Bishop, the Most Revd Michael Curry, is in Pittsburgh PA attending the Episcopal Revival announced earlier for that city, The Presiding Bishop’s Pilgrimage for Reconciliation, Healing and Evangelism in Southwestern Pennsylvania. However, this bishop is in Canada. The bishop is the Rt Revd David Edwards, 10th bishop diocesan of Fredericton. In addition to the historic Christ Church Cathedral pictured above, the diocese owns several adjacent properties with all but one, also occupied by historic structures. These properties are costing the Anglicans of New Brunswick hundreds of thousands of dollars a year just for basic upkeep. They all need millions of dollars in repair and refurbishment.
