Anglican Covenant rejected by Church of England

So far today the Dioceses of Lincoln and Oxford have both voted “no” on the question of returning the Anglican Covenant to the General Synod for consideration by the Church of England. With at least 22 dioceses voting against the Covenant, the Church of England will not be able to be part of the Covenant, at least for the immediate future.

Coptic Pope Shenouda dies

Pope Shenouda the III of the Coptic Church died earlier today. He was the Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of All Africa of the Coptic Orthodox Church. He had recently been the focus of a great deal of international attention as Christians in Egypt were the focus of persecution during the events leading up to the Arab Spring uprising last year.

Anglican Covenant gathers more “no” votes

There are five dioceses of the Church of England voting on the question of the Anglican Covenant today. So far this morning four have voted and three have rejected the Covenant. Liverpool voted “no” by almost 3 to 1 margins (and both bishops voted no). St. Albans voted “no” with the laity more than two to one opposed. Ely defeated it and Chester and Norwich voted in favor.
