From the Office of Public Affairs:
The Episcopal Diocese of Easton (MD) has been informed of the achievement of the canonically required majority of consents to the ordination and consecration of Bishop Santosh K. Marray as the eleventh Bishop of Easton.
Bishop Marray was elected Bishop of Easton on June 11. His investiture service is slated for October 15; Presiding Bishop Curry will officiate.
In Canon III.11.4 (b), Standing Committees, in consenting to the ordination and consecration, attest they are “fully sensible of how important it is that the Sacred Order and Office of a Bishop should not be unworthily conferred, and firmly persuaded that it is our duty to bear testimony on this solemn occasion without partiality, do, in the presence of Almighty God, testify that we know of no impediment on account of which the Reverend A.B. ought not to be ordained to that Holy Office. We do, moreover, jointly and severally declare that we believe the Reverend A.B. to have been duly and lawfully elected and to be of such sufficiency in learning, of such soundness in the Faith, and of such godly character as to be able to exercise the Office of a Bishop to the honor of God and the edifying of the Church, and to be a wholesome example to the flock of Christ.”
Bishop Marray succeeds the tenth Bishop of Easton, the Rt Rev. James T. Shand, who retired in 2014. The Rt. Rev. Henry Nutt Parsley Jr., has served the Diocese as Provisional Bishop in the interim.
Bishop Marray was the Bishop of the Seychelles in the Province of the Indian Ocean from 2005-2008, and has since served as an Assisting Bishop in East Carolina and Alabama, according to a biography on the General Theological Seminary website, which also notes that he was the first bishop in the Province of the Indian Ocean to ordain a woman to the priesthood. GTS awarded Marray an honorary Doctorate of Divinity during this year’s Commencement ceremonies.
