Statement by Archbishop of Canterbury
From the comments: “Mary addressed the convention, speaking eloquently and openly of the various political dynamics that were in play today. She began by addressing Latino delegates in Spanish, and went on to assure all Latino delegates of her commitment to lifting up and supporting Latino/Hispanic ministry. …Bp Bruno was quite emotional, and led the convention in a spontaneous “Amazing Grace” ….”
The Chicago Consultation issued a statement today from its co-convener, the Rev. Lowell Grisham, which concludes:“As Christians, we know that we can only fulfill the promise of our baptismal vows when all of our brothers and sisters in Christ can fulfill theirs. Today the people of Los Angeles and Mary Glasspool have made it more possible for all Episcopalians to be the people God is calling us to be.”
In a press release Integrity president said “It takes both a courageous candidate and a courageous community to fully embrace inclusion and to be prepared for the public attention this historic opportunity offers the Episcopal Church and the United States of America at this time.”
The Rt. Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton, bishop of Maryland, said in a press release, “This is a great day in the life of the Episcopal Church.”
Statement by Bishop Gene Robinson.
