The Cafe had its origins in a blog about the short-lived TV show, the Book of Daniel. But the show was cancelled after only airing five episodes and that blog began talking about other Episcopal-related things and became the Episcopal Cafe in mid-2007. Our founder Jim Naughton stepped down in 2014 and Jon White was named as the new managing editor whose primary task has been to make the Cafe self-supporting while also continuing its mission to tell the story of the church and to advocate for a church that truly welcomes and affirms all.
And now we’re ready for the next stage in our life. And we are excited to announce that we are joining forces with the Episcopal Journal, an award-winning national publication devoted to informing and inspiring Episcopalians and those who want to know more about the Episcopal Church. We will be launching a new combined website that brings together content from both publications.
We feel that this is a great opportunity to strengthen our mission to ‘tell the story of the Episcopal Church.’ The goals and perspectives of each of our publications are really very similar, but our approaches have been different, and this partnership allows each of us to bring our strengths together to make something that will be even stronger than each of us could be on our own.
The editor of the Episcopal Journal is Solange De Santis, a well known and respected journalist who has been involved in Episcopal and Anglican journalism for many years who said she was “excited to welcome Episcopal Café to Episcopal Journal, bringing the Café’s wide-ranging inspirational content to the Journal’s news, features, opinion, and arts coverage. Together, our print and online publication will be a dynamic source of information and spiritual strength for our Episcopal readers. I’m delighted that Jon White, who is also an Episcopal Journal board member, will continue to be involved with content in the merged publication. I look forward to working with him.”
White will be the online editor and De Santis will continue as the Managing Editor of the partnership. More information on the merged publication can be found at www.episcopaljournal.org.
