Joyous voices sweet and clear

At this time of year, here in the US, we are surrounded by Christmas Carols seemingly everywhere we go.  And ever since the emergence of the Sony Walkman, 30 years ago, each individual has been able to listen to their own personal soundtrack.  But while we’re surrounded by music, are we less likely to make music on our own – have we lost the art and pleasure of communal singing?  John Rutter, writing at the Spectator, explores this very question as he looks at the decline of communal singing in the UK.

How’s the singing in your congregation?  When’s the last time you stood around a piano, singing standards or went around the neighborhood caroling?
