Lexington church replaces hateful graffiti with messages of love

Saturday morning came with a rude awakening at St Michael the Archangel Episcopal Church in Lexington, KY.

Vandals had tagged the church overnight, leaving obscene messages, images, and a coating of spray paint.

In the spirit of never wasting a crisis, the cleanup crew at St Michael’s not only got to work restoring the welcoming aspects of the building in time for Sunday worship, but they turned the incident to an opportunity for evangelism, providing sidewalk chalk to write grace notes outside the church.

Local news picked up the story.

During the service, Brock put what happened in perspective.

“When people send out into the world hate and violence, our responsibility is to r14054326_10101942102642555_6092065949429573573_oespond with love,” Brock said. “Teenage boys are not the only ones who can graffiti things,”

Brock invited the entire congregation to go outside, pick up some sidewalk chalk, and write their own messages of love. By the end of the service, there were far more positive messages than the hateful messages that were there before.
