If you have followed the news out of General Convention, including Resolutions to set up Task Forces to study anything from Disability & Deaf Access (D097) to Dialogue with the South Sudanese Anglican Diaspora (D088), and you have wondered how to get involved with the continuing conversation, here is your chance. Nominations close in just under two weeks for various task forces set up by General Convention, as well as some continuing commissions and committees.
From the Secretary of General Convention:
Serving on an interim body is a way for Episcopalians across the church to participate in its governance. While the joint Standing Committees are only open to bishops and deputies to the 79th General Convention, all other interim bodies are open to all members of the Episcopal Church. Appointments to standing commissions are generally for six years while appointments to joint standing committees or task forces are generally for three years. …
The deadline for nominations is August 20, 2018. Appointments will be made by the Presiding Bishop and the President of the House of Deputies and announced in late September.
The application is here. Applicants are invited to indicate their interest in up to three groups. The full list of over 40 bodies, available at the link, includes the recently authorized Task Force on Liturgical & Prayer Book Revision (A068), the Task Force on Women, Truth, and Reconciliation (D016), as well as groups studying Environmental Racism, Creation Care, Social Justice Advocacy, Ministry to Individuals with Mental Illness, Substance Abuse, Clergy Formation, and much more.
Other interim bodies include Committees engaged with ecumenical and international relationships. Browse the whole list here, and find the invitation for nominations from the Revd Canon Michael Barlowe, Secretary of General Convention, here.
