Saturday collection 9/19

Here is our weekly collection plate of a few of the good things that Episcopalians and their congregations have done that made the news this past week. And other news fit to print.

Which is more popular, prayer shawl ministries like this one at Church of the Holy Comforter in Gadsden, Ala., or community gardens like this one at St. Brigit Episcopal Church in Frederick, Co.?

Or perhaps it is community suppers as practiced by St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Eastpointe, MI.

“Green” ministries, are gathering momentum as well. Long-time General Convention Deputy Byron Rushing, a state legislator in Massachusetts, took part in a recent light bulb replacement drive at St. John and St. James Episcopal Church in the Roxbury section of Boston.

And finally: There are 1.5 million pairs of shoes sitting idle in American closets. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church aims to put the ones in eastern North Carolina onto the feet of needy people.
