Synod to return to the question of a conscience clause

The Church of England has been asked to revisit the question of formal protection for those people within that Anglican Province who could not accept the ministry of woman ordained as bishops.

The most recent Synod of the Church of England explicitly rejected those formal provisions while deciding on a slow process toward ordaining the first woman bishop. But the decision was rejected by a number of people and spoken against by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

A committee has now asked the the upcoming synod return to the question and enact the formal “conscience clause” that was effectively rejected this summer.
