Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon, Secretary-General of the Anglican Communion sat down with with the Church of Ireland Gazette editor, Canon Ian Ellis recently for a wide-ranging interview. In it, he stated his belief that a revived Anglican Covenant is the best way forward for the future of the Anglican Covenant.
The Anglican Communion Office has released this statement from Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon, Secretary General of the Anglican Communion in response to recent comments on events leading up to the Anglican Consultative Council meeting, ACC-16.
This inability to recognise that the acceptance of homosexual practice calls for repentance is now entrenched by the ‘Continuing Indaba’ programme being promoted by the Anglican Communion Office. Because it is based on the assumption that the Bible’s teaching on homosexuality and marriage is not clear, despite two thousand years of Christian teaching and tradition that it is, it becomes impossible to talk about repentance.

“As you know, the Church of Uganda’s Provincial Assembly has resolved that the Church of Uganda will not participate in meetings of the Anglican Communion until godly order is restored, including demonstrating that it is capable of restoring godly order. This has not yet happened. The Church of Uganda, therefore, will not be participating in the upcoming April meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) in Lusaka.”

THE Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States, the Rt Revd Michael Curry, has emphasised the autonomy of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC), in the wake of the Primates’ decision to censure his Church.
At this moment it is anyone’s guess how the decision of the Primates’ Meeting will affect the respective TEC members who are members of the various AC bodies. The Primates’ Meeting has no constitutional authority to enforce its decisions. The ACC is the only constitutional entity of the AC.
