Diocese of Virginia attorneys have produced two 18th-century land deeds that say Christ Church possesses the property. The deeds say the land was owned by “Truro parish,” the designation for Colonial churches in Pohick, Alexandria and Falls Church. The diocese unearthed two U.S. Supreme Court decisions in 1815 and 1824 saying that Christ Church is the successor to Truro parish and that the Falls Church was a ward of the Alexandria congregation.
The standing committee of the Diocese of Quincy has recommended that the diocese seek realignment with the Anglican Church of the Southern Cone based in Argentina, while continuing as a member of the Common Cause Partnership….Bishop Ackerman, who is on sabbatical, will be back in time to preside at convention, which is scheduled to meet Nov. 7-8.

Ann Rogers of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes: Although much about San Joaquin’s experience is unique, its story is instructive about the problems that may lie ahead for the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, which will vote Saturday on whether to join San Joaquin in seceding.
The Rev. Herman (Holly) Hollerith was elected today as the Tenth Bishop of the Diocese of Southern Virginia on the sixth ballot.
In its statement the Diocese of Virginia “expressed grave concerns about the validity and fairness of the voting procedures used by the CANA congregations, [but] will forgo judicial review of that process to focus on those issues that will most effectively and quickly return Episcopalians to their church homes and result in the overturning of the 57-9 ‘Division Statute.’ ”
We recommend that this Diocese affiliate with the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone as a member diocese, on a temporary, pastoral basis, until such time as an orthodox Province of the Anglican Communion can be established in North Americsa (sic).
With about 100 similar cases in courts around the country, diocese attorney Thomas P. Smith said this appeared to be the first to reach a state’s top court. At issue is whether the parishioners who built the church own it, or whether they simply held it in trust for the Episcopal Church and the diocese under the national church’s 1979 Dennis Canon.
