Some in Israel and in Palestine and in our own government may find all that nagging from here and from around the world tiresome, but we will not go home until justice has been served. The lives and dignity and holy possibility of far too many people depend on our willingness to nap. The peace of Jerusalem and the world depends on our efforts.

For Jefferts Schori, relatedness with others, including non-human “others,” leads naturally to a theology of compassion and activism. She is most concerned for the voiceless, the powerless, those, who in her words, exist “on the margins.” … “I read the gospels to say that Jesus is most passionate about those that are excluded.”
Easter prods and provokes us with an immense stretching exercise. God has renewed a life given to the evil of this world on behalf of those with no other helper. That earth-shattering and tomb-shattering rebirth has planted the seeds of hope in each one of us. Yet those seeds do not produce fruit without struggle.
Bishop Duracin and I talked about foregoing Lent this year, for Haiti has already experienced Good Friday. Their task is to practice resurrection, find hope, and dream together of a restored world. That is our own task as well. The nations of the world, under Haiti’s direction, can help to rebuild a stronger and freer nation, where all people have hope of a more abundant life. – The Most Rev.
