The presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, Katharine Jefferts Schori, was in Wilkes-Barre Wednesday night.

It’s her first visit to the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem since she was installed in 2006. She leads a faith that has been in the spotlight for the ordination of a gay bishop and the elevation of women leaders, including herself.

Hundreds of Episcopalians packed St. Stephen’s Church in Wilkes-Barre for an evening service by Bishop Jefferts Schori.

“We have lots of populations around us who don’t know the good news of God and Christ,” said Jefferts Schori.
