Loyal Episcopalians in South Carolina ask for help. In particular, they are concerned that recent actions by their diocesan leadership as well as proposed canonical changes are attempt to alienate the diocese from the Episcopal Church and insulate the leadership from accountability.
Today, the Supreme Court of Virginia declined a request by the CANA congregations to reargue the decision of June 10, 2010. The Court’s original, unanimous ruling in favor of the Diocese stands, and the case will return to the Fairfax Circuit Court.

How many Episcopal churches do you of know that are doing charity work, but aren’t doing anything to solve injustices? How many have feeding programs, but aren’t engaged in finding solutions to the trap the poor find themselves in their area.
America can still be, as Madison perceived the nation in 1785, “an Asylum to the persecuted and oppressed of every Nation and Religion.” But recognizing that deep religious discord has been part of America’s social DNA is a healthy and necessary step. When we acknowledge that dark past, perhaps the nation will return to that “promised…lustre” of which Madison so grandiloquently wrote.
Someone passing through teaches generally about social needs … but because there is no immediate reference this stuff tends not to have an impact, and tends not to be good teaching as a whole, and then we tend to do nothing about the culture as whole.
